Open Letter Regarding ACRL Framework for Information Literacy

Printer-friendly version

Some of the members of the ACRL-NJ/NJLA CUS User Education Committee and the VALE NJ Shared Information Literacy Committees have collaborated on an Open Letter Regarding the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. It is available on a Google Doc at http://bit.ly/1CpyyjT along with the list of additional librarians, library directors, and library school faculty who signed in support of the letter.

The letter has been sent to the ACRL Task Force and the ACRL Board of Directors, who will be considering the Task Force's recommendations at ALA Midwinter on January 31st. Our goal is to encourage the ACRL Board to not approve the Framework at this time, which includes a recommendation to sunset the existing IL Standards 1 year after the approval of the Framework. We believe that continued dialogue about the Standards and the Framework will result in a further revised document that is as useful and valuable as the previous Standards were.
